Colin Schmitt formally nominated as 99th Assembly District Republican Candidate

New Windsor, NY -- (5/19/16) Colin J. Schmitt of New Windsor was formally nominated this evening by the Orange County Republican Committee Convention as its nominee for the 99th Assembly District.

The 99th Assembly district includes ten towns, nine of which (Wawayanda, Goshen, Hamptonburgh, Chester, Blooming Grove, Woodbury, New Windsor, Highlands, Cornwall) are in Orange County. Stony Point in Rockland formally nominated Schmitt on Monday evening.

Colin Schmitt stated, “It is my distinct honor to be formally nominated as the Republican candidate for New York State Assembly in the 99th District. This race provides Hudson Valley voters with a clear choice. I will work every day to represent our community and our shared values in the State Assembly. The incumbent is a creature of Albany who serves as a reliable vote for Bill de Blasio's New York City agenda, that is unacceptable. Our grassroots campaign and message have been extremely well received by the hard working families, seniors, veterans, students, small business owners and residents who live in this district and we will be successful this November.”

County Executive Steve Neuhaus stated, "Colin Schmitt's experience and leadership will be a true asset for Orange County taxpayers and residents of the Hudson Valley. Colin's victory this November will be a victory for all of us who live in the 99th Assembly District."

Schmitt continued, “There are many pressing issues facing our state and community. In the New York State Assembly I will deliver our fair share from Albany to lower property taxes, invest in our schools and create jobs in our community. I will be dedicated to stopping common core and returning control of our children's education to local parents. My strong focus will be on leading the fight against systemic welfare abuse and property annexations and defending our natural resources by opposing the KJ pipeline. I believe in term limits and will fight for the accountable, honest government we deserve.”

Colin J. Schmitt is a resident of New Windsor. He serves in the Army National Guard and previously served as Director of Operations for the NYS Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee. For more information visit
