Schmitt renews call for DEC accountability

New Windsor, NY -- (5/24/16) Colin J. Schmitt, candidate for the 99th NYS Assembly District, today released the following statement:

"I am extremely disappointed with the yesterday's court decision to dismiss two lawsuits designed to protect our local water supply from diversion to Kiryas Joel.  It was irresponsible for the state Department of Environmental Conservation to allow more than 600,000 gallons of water to be pumped each day to fuel the growth of Kiryas Joel.

Given the importance of this issue to our local community, as a member of the State Assembly, I will lead the fight to reign in the DEC and to use the Assembly's oversight authority to ensure that this agency fulfills its responsibility to act independently and protect our precious water supply for future generations.

Providing this type of oversight and ensuring that state agencies are accountable to local residents will be a priority when I'm elected to the State Assembly."

Colin J. Schmitt is a resident of New Windsor. He serves in the Army National Guard and previously served as Director of Operations for the NYS Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee. For more information visit
