ASSEMBLYMAN SCHMITT HOSTS ‘HIKE WITH YOUR ASSEMBLYMAN’ AT BLACK ROCK FOREST
New York-New Jersey Trail Conference
Cornwall, NY — (11/10/2019) Assemblyman Colin J. Schmitt (R,C,I-New Windsor) today hosted his Hike with your Assemblyman event in partnership with Black Rock Forest.
Assemblyman and Mrs. Schmitt along with Assembly Dog Quincy joined with Black Rock Forest Executive Director, William Schuster, PhD and constituents to hike a portion of Black Rock Forest and learn about how the forest and its inhabitants transition into the winter months.
Assemblyman Colin J. Schmitt stated, “It was a wonderful fall morning to have my constituents join my family and I for a hike and experience one of the 99th Assembly Districts most renowned hiking trails. People come from all over the world to hike in our Assembly District and I am proud to highlight these trails and celebrate them with my new “hike with your Assemblyman” initiative.”
Schmitt continued, “I would like to thank Black Rock Forest for hosting us today and for all the critical work they do year round as well as Orange County Tourism and the New York/New Jersey Trail Conference for partnering with me on this event and my ‘hike with you Assemblyman’ initiative.”
William Schuster, PhD, Executive Director, Black Rock Forest stated, “We had a wonderful morning with Assemblyman Schmitt and his constituents on a guided hike in our 3,914 acres of Forest – which serves students, scientists, and recreational visitors. We talked about the forest and trees during this transitional season and informed hikers about some of the environmental research projects underway here at the forest.”
Glenn Oleksak, Highlands Trail Chair, New York/New Jersey Trail Conference stated, “It was a great day to join Assemblyman Schmitt and his constituents on a hike as a representative of the Highlands Trail on behalf of the NYNJTC. Assemblyman Schmitt has developed a strong working partnership with the NYNJTC to ensure that the trails and nature areas we share are sustainable and accessible for all to enjoy for generations to come. Assemblyman Schmitt’s event sparks our passion for creating great trail experiences and we were honored to join him.”
Colin Schmitt is committed to public service. Colin is a member of the U.S. Army National Guard and Assemblyman for the 99th NYS Assembly District which includes the Town of Stony Point in Rockland County and The Towns of Wawayanda, Goshen, Hamptonburgh, Chester, Blooming Grove, New Windsor, Cornwall, Highlands and Woodbury in Orange County. Colin lives in the Town of New Windsor with his wife Nikki and their beloved adopted Catahoula puppy Quincy!
